Introducing: staff profiles

Hi everyone,

Starting this week, we are going to be introducing a new feature on this blog...staff profiles! This will be an easy and fun way for you to get to know who's working behind the scenes on supporting AIESEC US.

Today's profile: Kyle Schneider!

Name: Kyle Lee Schneider

What do you for AIESEC US: Business Development

Education info: The University of Wisconsin, Bachelor of Science in History, 2008

Childhood Dream: I wanted to be a school bus driver. Not sure why... I didn't even take the school bus. I must have heard really great things. Now that I have a college degree, a clean driving record, and a really killer drivers license picture - I'm thinking about applying. Great job security.

Proudest moment: That's a really difficult question because I feel there are many different levels of pride. Obviously college graduation was neat, but it was never in question. As far as unique accomplishments go I'd have to say being an all-state wrestler in high school was up there. I sacrificed a great deal to achieve that goal.

Motto you live by: I would rather be ashes than dust.

If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be and why: Well, because I'm filling this out pre-Thanksgiving, I have to say back home to Wisconsin. I've never missed my family's Thanksgiving, and it's disappointing to be missing out this year. It's a total riot. Under normal circumstances I'd probably head to Tokyo or Hong Kong.

Guilty pleasures: I've been known to tear down a karaoke joint or two with my rendition of "Beautiful Soul" by my main man J-Mac.

One thing you can't live without:

Heroes: In no specific order: my parents and family, the troops, our founding fathers (the most baller distinction ever given), and Ryan Braun.

Moving On

Hi All,

I am writing to announce my resignation as the J1 Program Coordinator with AIESEC United States. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities that AIESEC US has provided me during my tenure. My last day at AIESEC will be Monday November 24.

These past few months have been especially challenging, exciting and rewarding. I sincerely hope that this organization is able to continue to grow and flourish and I wish everyone all the best in the future.

It has truly been a pleasure to be a part of AIESEC these past 15 months. Shannon will continue to be available to all of you at the Local level, so please be sure to contact her with any questions you've got.

ps. Register for Winter Conference by December 15!

Kindest Regards,

Melissa Giblock

Exciting News from Oman!

Earlier today we got this message from Katy Conrad, from the AIESEC Expansion Team in Oman. Great job over there guys! We're so proud of all of your accomplishments!!!

I know you are all very busy, but we wanted to share some really exciting news with you to hopefully brighten up your day. Our AIESEC in Oman Launch Event and “Symposium on Higher Education in Oman” will be November 22nd, and in preparation, a very popular newspaper here in Oman did a story on AIESEC here. We were ecstatic to see that we are front page (note the corner of Brett’s business card in the photo above the Omani passport)! Then on page 4 and 5, you can read the entire story. It includes interviews with two of our interns, 3 of our student members, Brett and Kenneth MacFarlane (the Senior Partner of PwC) and finally His Excellency, the Undersecretary from the Ministry of Higher Education!

Find it here: http://server4a.pressmart.net/theweeknew/#

Smiles :)

Winter Conference, AI visits, our new wiki, and more!

Hey AIESEC!

The past week has been a rush of excitement with the U.S. Presidential Election on Tuesday and the arrival of Kate Hanlon from AIESEC International on Wednesday. Luckily for Kate she has just missed the frenzy of an election and has joined us for some productive discussions on the future of AIESEC and what we can do to make our international relationships more functional and mutually beneficial. Throughout our conversations it is apparent that open communication and information sharing is key to AIESEC's success and we very much appreciate her support.

We have lots of updates for everyone this week, which we're very excited about!

First, we now have created an AIESEC US wiki on myaiesec.net. Check it out HERE. On this wiki we'll be posting information about opportunities, traineeships, conferences, files, etc.

Second, registration for Winter Conference is now OPEN!!!!! Go HERE to register. Don't wait: register now! It's a conference not to be missed. The conference will be in St. Louis, Missouri, from December 27, 2008- January 1, 2009. And we are thrilled to welcome AIESEC International's own Juan Cajiao as our chair for the conference!

Third, one of our customers, Deloitte, has just re-contracted for ten traineeships, which we're very excited about. We're also getting involved in Global Exchange Partnerships for the first time, so look for more traineeship opportunities soon.

So don't forget: register for winter conference and check out our wiki!

To those of you who are going to the Rowdies ROKS conference this weekend....can't wait to see you all, it's going to be awesome!
